Responsible leadership

Governance & Accountability

AYC is committed to leadership that is transparent, responsible, ethical and accountable to its members and the wider community.

How we lead

Responsible leadership and accountable institutions.

AYC's governance principles emphasize democratic governance, accountability, transparency, peaceful dialogue, inclusiveness, collective leadership and respect for diversity.

Collective responsibility

Major decisions should reflect consultation, teamwork and respect for the movement's legitimate leadership structures.

Financial responsibility

Movement resources should be managed prudently, recorded properly and used only for legitimate organizational purposes.

Ethical conduct

Leaders and members are expected to act honestly, avoid conflicts of interest and protect the reputation and trust of the movement.

Member participation

Members should be able to contribute ideas, engage constructively and participate in the life of the movement.

Transparency

Public communication should be accurate, responsible and clear about AYC's positions, priorities and activities.

Service above self

Leadership exists to serve the community, not to create personal privilege or advantage.

Public trust

Accountability is central to responsible leadership.

AYC expects leaders to act with integrity, protect organizational resources, respect members equally, promote reconciliation and exercise authority with humility.

Where concerns arise, they should be handled fairly, respectfully and through the appropriate internal channels.

Authority must be exercised with humility, fairness and accountability.
